But just what is eclectic style? It's often confused with bohemian style, or at least the terms are sometimes used interchangeably. They are definitely two distinct design styles! Bohemian really has no rules, favoring personal taste above any overarching design principles. On the other hand, eclectic bends the rules a bit but doesn't break with the overall principles of design. It encompasses a range of periods and styles married together through color, shape, and texture. It also relies on balance, proportion, and scale to make it cohesive and striking, introducing varying elements with restrain and an eye on high design. The eclectic palette can vary, but as you can see in these beautiful images, it's best to stay with a foundation of neutrals to tie all the elements together and highlight the showstoppers!
